Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever – Regional Insights and Lessons Learned

This webinar brings together leading experts to explore the evolving epidemiology, clinical patterns and public health challenges of Crimean- Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in two highly affected regions.
Prof. Salih Ahmeti will present “Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever in Kosova: Clinical and Epidemiological Data”, sharing frontline experience and national surveillance findings.

Prof. Önder Ergönül will present on “Crimean Congo Haemorrhagic Fever: Lessons from Türkiye”, highlighting decades of research, outbreak response strategies and key insights for prevention and control.

Prof. Salih Ahmeti
Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever in Kosova – Clinical and Epidemiological Data

Prof. Salih Ahmeti graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Prishtina in 1981. He completed his postgraduate studies, specialising in Infectious Diseases, as well as his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in the field of viral hemorrhagic fevers at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. Since 2005, Prof. Dr. Ahmeti has served as a Full Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Prishtina. During his academic career, he also served one term as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

Prof. Dr. Ahmeti has participated in numerous scientific conferences and is the author of many national and international scientific publications. He worked for 40 years at the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Prishtina, where he managed numerous cases and outbreaks of viral hemorrhagic fevers as well as COVID-19.

He retired from his work in the clinic in 2022. His primary research interests focus on viral infectious diseases, with particular emphasis on viral hemorrhagic fevers.

Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever: The Lessons from Türkiye

Prof. Önder Ergönül is a leading specialist in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology. He is Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health at Koç University School of Medicine and Director of the Koç University İş Bank Research Center for Infectious Diseases. An expert in clinical epidemiology and emerging infections, he has authored over 150 scientific articles and edited several academic books. Prof. Ergönül is a member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences and has served on the board of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.
